Re: Historic serial numbers Does anyone know how the Chambered Historics numbering system work as they start with CR?? My guess is the first digit after CR determines whether the guitar is a R7,8,9 etc, the second digit the year of manufacture and the last three the number made in that year - am I right??? Gibson stopped the stamped serial numbers at the end in 1960, although there are a few guitars made in 1961 with a '1' as a prefix. Some lap steels and Les Paul's from 1961 have such a serial number. Another exception to the above rules is in the autumn from 1958, where a some Les Paul Juniors and Specials had a four-digit serial number.

[HELP] Les Paul Classic - Serial Number Identification
So, I have a Gibson Les Paul Classic, Honey Burst finish, I believe. When I bought it, years ago, I was told it's a 1998. But after looking at Gibson's website for serial number identification, I'm confused as to whether it's a 1998 or 1991.
The numbers on the back of the head stock appear as follows:
9 0781
According to my interpretation of the Gibson website info, that would mean this was manufactured on 3/19/1991. First number is the decade, 90's; Next three numbers indicate the day of the year, 78th day of the year, which is March 19th; and the 4th number indicates what year in that decade, 91.
If someone with knowledge of this subject can help confirm/advise on the correct date my guitar was made, I would greatly appreciate it.
